Welcome back to the Decision Navigator!
Every week, The Decision Navigator newsletter gives you the blueprints you need to take the helm, stop drifting, and move with intention.
The world is screaming at you right now. “New Year, New You.” “10 Goals for 2026.” “Optimize your morning routine.”
The temptation in the first week of January is to fill the void with activity. We doomscroll to find inspiration. We listen to podcasts at 2x speed to catch up. We pack our calendars to feel productive.
But fruitfulness doesn’t start with hustle. It starts with a firm foundation.

⚓ ANCHOR — The Heart
Quiet the noise
You cannot discern direction if you are drowning in noise. We often treat silence as “dead time” to be filled. But silence is actually the canvas where true vision is painted. If you don’t defend your quiet, the world will fill it for you—usually with anxiety and comparison.
Jordan Raynor nails this in his excellent book Redeeming Your Time, where he introduces his principle #3 Dissent From the Kingdom of Noise. We must fight to block out noise and create room for silence, stillness, and reflection.

🧠 DISCERN — The Mind
Connect to what matters
In our framework, Step 2 is Connect to What Matters. You can’t connect if you are constantly inputting data. This week, instead of asking “What should I do this year?”, ask “What am I willing to tune out?”
Limit the inputs. Turn off the “optimization” content. Boredom is not a sin; it is often the prerequisite for a breakthrough.
Sort through all of the things not directly contributing to clarity and set them aside. We have to actively limit before we can choose wisely.

↔️ DECIDE — The Hands
One Small Step...
Here’s your micro-action for the week:
Here is a counter-intuitive move for Week 1. Don’t write your goal list yet. Instead, block out two hours this weekend for “unstructured silence." No phone. No podcasts. Just a notebook and a pen.
Write down the 3 things that are actually heavy on your heart. Not what should be there. What is there.
I use the phrase “honest assessment” a lot. We have to start with an honest assessment of where we are and what is weighing on us.
Let the year start with listening, not shouting.

That's it for this week. Next week we’ll start putting the framework into steps that feel more like action, but don’t skip this step. This is critical to launching this year well.
If this was helpful, forward it to someone who’s suffering from indecision or trying to navigate big decisions better.
